Recidivism — it is the tendency of those who’ve been arrested to return to prison. 

Our legal framework has been purposely designed to be so complicated that, long after ex-prisoners pay their dues, they can’t return to the workforce. This leads ex-prisoners into a desperate cycle that sends them back to prison. Over. And over. And over.

Our Instillation

To raise awareness, we built an art installation out of real legal paperwork. 38 statues representing each state that has yet to enact Clean Slate legislation. We placed these paper people where America’s most famous piece of paper was signed: in Philadelphia’s Independence Mall, in front of the National Constitution Center.
